Titans suffer first loss in scrappy Sunday affair

In a disappointing afternoon for the Titans, they suffered their first loss of the NRLW season against Newcastle at McDonald Jones Stadium.

The Titans' struggles with completion rates from last season resurfaced, as they could only manage a 60 percent completion rate.

Abigail Roache's double helped the Knights establish a 16-4 lead, but the match entered a stalemate in the second half with errors from both teams.

The Knights started strong, with Upton and English recruit Georgia Roche combining to send Roache over for her first try of the game.

Olivia Higgins then exploited the Titans' weak goal-line defense to extend the lead to 10-0.

However, an error from Knights halfback Jesse Southwell allowed the Titans to strike back, with Niall Williams-Guthrie making amends for her earlier mistake by sending Emily Bass over for a try.

The match took a turn when Shanice Parker was sin-binned for a lifting tackle on Sienna Lofipo, and shortly after, Lofipo took advantage of the gap left by Parker to score a try.
