The Gold Coast Titans have announced their first signing under new head coach Josh Hannay as they look to revamp their strategy for the upcoming 2026 NRL season.

Earlier this year, the Titans had already acquired Kurtis Morrin from the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, but now, they have secured their first official addition in Luke Sommerton, a hooker from the Penrith Panthers.

Sommerton was released by the Panthers a few months ago after making a total of 12 appearances for the team-seven of which occurred in the 2025 season. He has signed a two-year contract with the Titans that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2027 season.

His signing will enhance competition in the dummy-half position, as he will vie with Sam Verrils for the No. 9 jersey.

"We know Luke is a talented young hooker who's come through a strong system at Penrith and shown he can compete at NRL level, but it is also about Luke's standards that he sets within the playing group," Hannay stated.

"He brings energy, and a real hunger to improve, and we're excited to see him grow in the environment over the next two seasons."
