Queensland Maroons coach Billy Slater may soon need to find a new assistant as Josh Hannay emerges as the leading candidate to replace Gold Coast Titans coach Des Hasler.

Reports from zerotackle.com indicate that Hasler's departure at the end of the season has sparked speculation about possible replacements, with many former NRL coaches considered.

However, Hannay appears poised to surpass them, having narrowly missed out on the Parramatta Eels job last year to Jason Ryles.

Hannay's prospects are notably bright, as he is also a target for the North Queensland Cowboys and Newcastle Knights, both of whom are contemplating coaching changes.

The Titans find themselves in a competitive race to secure Hannay's services, given his growing reputation and demand.

Regardless of the outcome, it seems likely that Hannay will land a head coaching role in the NRL, leaving the Maroons in a challenging position after their recent success in the 2025 State of Origin series.
