The Gold Coast Titans have announced a significant change in their ownership structure, welcoming Matty Johns and Gorden Tallis into a broader consortium. This development comes as the Titans have faced ongoing challenges in achieving on-field success since their inception in the NRL. Additionally, there will be a new coaching direction for the 2026 season, with Josh Hannay stepping in to replace Des Hasler.
The inclusion of Johns, Tallis, and several others-such as Johns' wife Trish, Titans director Jemma Elder, journalist Hedley Thomas, journalist Ruth Mathewson, and Cross Promotions founders Billy and Jackie Cross, alongside long-standing Gold Coast business figures Michael and Jodie Atkins-marks a pivotal moment that the club is dubbing a 'new era.'
Despite the changes, Brett and Rebecca Frizelle will continue to hold the majority share in the club. Johns expressed his enthusiasm for the investment, citing a strong belief in the Titans' potential. "This season marks fifty years since I first pulled on a pair of football boots as a five-year-old, at home in Cessnock. Rugby league is, and always has been, more than a sport for the Johns family, and to be given a chance to enter into ownership, is surreal to say the least," said Matty Johns.
He further noted, "We're investing into the Titans because we believe in the club's potential and believe that the business acumen and professionalism of the Frizelle family will soon see that potential realised."
