NRL club urged to make immediate move for Cameron Smith after calls for change intensify

Former NRL star Josh Reynolds has urged the Gold Coast Titans to pursue Queensland legend Cameron Smith as their next coach amid increasing calls for change, especially with reports suggesting that current coach Des Hasler may be leaving the club.

Following ongoing struggles leading to the Titans' last-place position on the NRL ladder with only four wins in 2025, speculation has heightened regarding Hasler's future.

Reports indicate that if the team does not secure a victory against the Broncos this weekend, which have won two consecutive games and are vying for a top-eight position, the Titans' board may activate a clause in Hasler's contract that allows for his dismissal.

Hasler, who joined the Titans in 2024 to revitalize the team's performance, has seen little improvement, finishing 14th last season and now facing another potential finals absence.

Reporter Peter Badel noted on SEN Radio that the Titans could part ways with Hasler if it becomes mathematically impossible for them to make the finals.

In light of these developments, Reynolds suggested the Titans should make a bold move for Smith, emphasizing the importance of changing the club's culture.

Smith has expressed interest in the Australian national coaching role, especially ahead of the upcoming Ashes series, but he faces competition from Kevin Walters.

Reynolds believes the Titans need to make a statement by offering Smith a lucrative contract to steer the team in a new direction.
