Des Hasler has been dismissed as the Titans coach after just two seasons at the helm, with Josh Hannay emerging as the frontrunner to take over in 2026 as the team strives for success on the Gold Coast.
The Titans have only managed to secure five victories this season and seem set to earn the wooden spoon for the third consecutive time. Hasler is the latest in a line of coaches who have struggled to capitalize on a squad rich in talent.
Despite having a year left on his contract, Hasler will not continue into 2026, having secured only 13 wins during his two seasons, a stark contrast to his successful tenure at Manly, where he clinched two titles.
The seasoned coach will guide the Titans through their final two matches of the season against the Dolphins and Wests Tigers, with a slim chance to avoid the wooden spoon provided they win and Newcastle faces a couple of defeats.
Earlier this season, Hasler marked his 500-game milestone, but the writing has been on the wall regarding his departure, which was confirmed following a loss to the Warriors and a tense interaction with a journalist post-game.
"His deep knowledge, passion and unwavering commitment to excellence have been evident every day he has worked with the club," remarked Titans chairman Dennis Watt.
"While this season hasn't gone as planned, Des has conducted himself with the dignity and class that has defined his entire career."
