After a disappointing first season in the NRL, Carter Gordon's time with the Gold Coast Titans has unexpectedly come to an end.

On Monday, the Titans announced that Gordon has received an early release from the last year of his contract due to a financial agreement made with Rugby Australia.

The former Wallabies fly-half made his NRL debut in Round 27 against the Wests Tigers and expressed his desire to return to rugby union earlier this month.

Gordon joined the Titans midway through 2024 after transitioning from rugby union.

His inaugural season was marred by a cerebrospinal fluid leak, but he eventually recovered to make his first NRL appearance at Cbus Super Stadium, a moment for which he expressed gratitude in his farewell statement.

"I've thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Titans and am thankful for the opportunity the club has given me to experience a taste of the NRL," Gordon said in a club statement.

"I'm extremely appreciative of the support I received during my injury this year, with the club going above and beyond to get me back on the field playing footy."
