In an unexpected move, Gold Coast Titans coach Josh Hannay is bridging the gap between codes by forming an unusual partnership with his AFL counterparts.
This innovative collaboration aims to bolster the Titans, transforming the Gold Coast region into a genuine sporting powerhouse.
Hannay has opened discussions with Suns' coach Damien Hardwick, drawing on the insights of the three-time premiership winner as the Titans aim for long-term success in the NRL.
Instead of considering the AFL team as mere competitors for sponsorship and fan attention, Hannay views this as a chance for mutual growth.
"He's a legend, so why wouldn't I as a young coach want to sit down and spend some time with that guy?" Hannay expressed to 7News.
"I'd like to think they've got a lot to offer us as well from a kicking and catching point of view."
This partnership, however, is not simply one-sided.
Hardwick is equally committed to fostering stronger ties between the two sports as both teams work towards elevating the standards of professional athletics in the city.
"We can learn from each other, we can grow with each other, and it's really important that we get that relationship stronger, make a formidable partnership," Hardwick asserted.
He added, "The city of Gold Coast to me is craving out for professional sports that are successful. Suns, Titans - I'm all in."
