Tigers' young star misses chance to shine bright

Wests Tigers prospect Heamasi Makasini has been ruled out of the upcoming U18s ASSRL National Championships in July, which aims to highlight the best young rugby league talent.

Following earlier announcements that Ashton Large and Onitoni Large would also not participate, Makasini's withdrawal marks another disappointment for the New South Wales Combined Independent Schools (NSWCIS) side.

Zero Tackle reports that Makasini, a promising centre for the Wests Tigers, will be replaced by his Newington schoolmate, Braith Sloane, an outside back for the Canterbury Bulldogs.

This withdrawal is particularly notable as Makasini had recently been recognized as the 18th man for the NSW Blues in the U19s State of Origin match.

He is contracted with the Wests Tigers through to the end of the 2027 NRL season, indicating his potential as a future NRL star.

The U18s ASSRL National Championships, taking place in Coffs Harbour, are anticipated to showcase some of the best young talent in rugby league.
