The Wests Tigers have made a move to secure Sione Fainu, whose contract expires at the end of 2026. Originally a product of the Manly Sea Eagles, Sione now plays alongside his brothers, Samuela and Latu, at the Tigers.
Samuela enjoyed a standout 2025 season as a second-rower, while Latu showcased his abilities in the halves but may find himself competing with Jarome Luai and Adam Doueihi for a starting position this year.
As the eldest brother, Sione has previously shone at junior State of Origin level but has yet to fully harness his potential. However, at 24 years old, he delivered his best NRL season in 2025, demonstrating the promise that led to the Tigers making him a contract offer.
The reported proposal from the Tigers is for three years, estimated at $1.2 million, equating to $400,000 annually. If Sione accepts this deal, it would secure his position at the Concord-based team until at least the end of 2029.
Having been on a development deal in 2024, Fainu has swiftly risen through the ranks, playing all 24 games in 2025, which caught the attention of Perth Bears coach Mal Meninga. He had plans to present Fainu with an enticing offer to move across the country; however, this task may be challenging.
Given that Sione's brothers are also on the Tigers' roster, relocating to another part of the country may not be an appealing prospect for him, as has been observed with other players.
