Tigers Extend Contract of Promising Rookie

Exciting news for fans as rookie outside back Tino Tavana has extended his contract with the Wests Tigers through the end of the 2029 season.

Having developed through the Tigers' pathways system, Tavana excelled in the Jersey Flegg competition in 2025, making his NRL debut in Round 4 this year, where he notably scored against the Warriors.

The club's belief in this young talent speaks volumes about his commitment and resilience, especially after rumors in March suggested he was on the verge of being released from his train-and-trial contract.

Last year, he found the try line nine times in the under-21s division, but it was his stunning individual try during the preseason challenge that truly turned heads, showcasing exceptional athleticism.

With his new contract extension, Tavana is set to join the development squad in 2027, transitioning to the Tigers' top 30 for the final two years of his deal.

Thanks to a special dispensation from the NRL, Tavana seized his chance to debut in the first-grade team amid an injury crisis, even while not being part of their top 30.

The promising rookie expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and the journey ahead.

"I'll always be grateful to Benji and the Club for giving me the opportunity to make my dream of playing in the NRL a reality - it was a special moment for me and my family," Tavana stated.
