In a thrilling Queensland derby, Heilum Luki's late try propelled the North Queensland Cowboys to their fourth consecutive victory, overcoming the Brisbane Broncos.

This match, ending 35-31, showcased an exceptional performance from Cowboys fullback Scott Drinkwater.

Tom Duffy, the young Broncos halfback, shone in his club debut against his previous team.

With composure, Duffy, 22, converted a 75th-minute field goal to give Brisbane a 31-30 advantage.

Not to be outdone, Drinkwater quickly matched him with a field goal of his own just two minutes later, setting the stage for Luki's decisive score two minutes before the final whistle.

Stepping in for the injured Adam Reynolds, Duffy excelled by assisting in two tries and making three linebreaks in front of 45,582 fans at Suncorp Stadium.

However, the Broncos faced challenges when they lost both Cory Paix and Blake Mozer to concussion in the second half, along with lock Pat Carrigan being placed on report.

Mozer, making his first NRL appearance in 18 months, sustained a severe jaw injury while tackling Cowboys powerhouse Jason Taumalolo.

Moreover, the Broncos were already missing key players such as Reece Walsh, Reynolds, and Ben Hunt due to injuries.

The first half saw Drinkwater's creativity complemented by the pace of centre Jaxon Purdue, setting the tone for an exciting encounter.
