The upcoming clash between the Jersey Flegg Sharks and the Newtown Jets against the Panthers at Parker Street Reserve, Penrith on Saturday afternoon marks the beginning of their 2025 campaigns.

It's a chance for redemption for the Sharks after narrowly missing out on the title in last year's grand final against the Bulldogs.

Coach Andrew Dallalana is back at the helm, leading a promising squad onto the field, many of whom were part of the 2024 team.

Recent NRL trial participants, including centre Michael Gabrael, five-eighth Taj Ford, halfback Riley Pollard, prop Felix Faatili, and lock Sam McCulloch, will bring their skills to the under-21 level alongside talented SG Ball Cup graduates.

Reflecting on their victorious 40-26 clash against Penrith in the finals series last year, the Flegg Sharks are ready to continue their winning streak.

Meanwhile, the Newtown Jets, known as Cronulla's feeder club, are gearing up for their Knock-On Effect NSW Cup premiership defense against a strong Panthers team that finished third last season.

With Sharks NRL squad members like Billy Burns, Niwhai Puru, Hohepa Puru, Chris Vea'ila, Mawene Hiroti, Liam Ison, and Jayden Berrell joining their ranks, the Jets are set to make their mark on the competition.

The stage is set for an exciting season ahead, filled with passion, determination, and plenty of bone-rattling tackles.

Let's hope both teams can channel that winning spirit from the past and create a successful future in the world of Rugby League.
