Brad Fittler, the former NSW State of Origin coach, has decided to step down from his position after declining a one-year contract extension.
Fittler, who recently defended his role in a meeting with the NSW Rugby League board, informed them of his decision on Thursday.
His departure marks the end of a successful six-year reign, during which the Blues claimed consecutive series victories in 2018 and 2019, followed by three losses in the past four years.
It has been reported that Fittler's contract offer was less lucrative than his previous deal, which saw him employed by the NSWRL on a full-time basis.
NSWRL chair Paul Conlon acknowledged and respected Fittler's choice, stating, "The board understands and respects his decision."
