Tevita Pangai Junior, a former player for the Brisbane Broncos, Canterbury Bulldogs, Penrith Panthers, and Dolphins, has made the surprising announcement that he will not be joining the Warrington Wolves in 2026.
Pangai Junior was initially confirmed as a new signing for the club back in July after spending the 2025 season with the Catalans Dragons, marking a new chapter in his career following a period of retirement.
Warrington Wolves expressed their disappointment in a statement regarding his decision. "Tevita Pangai Jr has recently informed the club of his decision not to join for the 2026 season," the club stated. "While we are disappointed, the club accepts his decision, as we remain committed to building a squad of players who are fully invested in the club and its ambitions."
At 29 years old, Pangai Junior had previously stepped away from the NRL after his time with the Bulldogs to pursue boxing, although his current path remains uncertain. While a return to boxing appears unlikely, it is unclear if any Australian teams would be interested in signing him should he decide to return to the NRL.
