Tariq Sims, a veteran player with six caps for the New South Wales Blues, is searching for a new club and might make a return to the NRL. Currently, he plays for the Catalans Dragons in the Super League, but the club has announced that "Sims will not be given a contract extension and will depart at the conclusion of the 2025 season," alongside several other teammates.
Having last participated in the NRL in 2023, the five-time Fijian international transitioned to the Dragons, where he has played over 35 matches. However, this year he has experienced less game time than anticipated. His exit from the Dragons coincides with the arrivals of Solomona Faataape, Toby Sexton, and Zac Lipowicz for the next season, necessitating some roster adjustments to accommodate new international quota players.
At 35 years old, Sims' move abroad followed an extensive career in the NRL with teams like the North Queensland Cowboys, Newcastle Knights, St George Illawarra Dragons, and Melbourne Storm, where he made 236 appearances and scored 44 tries. While his next move remains uncertain, the brother of Ashton Sims and Korbin Sims may choose to return home, continue his overseas career, or possibly retire.
Despite his age, Sims would bring significant experience to any team, offering mentorship to younger forwards in a first-grade squad.
