Former Black Fern Pia Tapsell experienced a significant milestone in her sports career by achieving a victory in her NRLW debut with the Dragons, defeating their opponents 36-14.

At 26, Tapsell, a proud Ngāti Whakauae and Te Arawa Māori woman from Devonport, Auckland, is no stranger to success.

She debuted for the Black Ferns in 2019, where she was nominated for Rookie of the Year, and has since made six appearances for her country.

Prior to joining the Dragons, Tapsell spent the 2024 NRLW season with Cronulla, where she did not get the opportunity to debut and instead played in the Harvey Norman NSW Women's Premiership.

However, her offseason move to the Dragons has reinvigorated her career.

Starting as a front-row player in the season opener, Tapsell's performance contributed significantly to the team's success, marking a memorable start to her tenure with the Dragons.
