Sydney Roosters' Tupou nears 200 tries

NRL Preliminary Final – Dolphins v Roosters

At 35, Tupou remains unsigned for next year, but the Roosters want him back and he has leaned toward playing on.

He enters Sunday's grand final against Newcastle with 198 tries for Sydney, two short of 200.

Only Ken Irvine and Alex Johnston have reached that total in rugby league's 119-year history.

Though unaware of the milestone, Tupou said, "If it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, then it is what it is."

He scored in the Roosters' 2013 grand final win over Manly and opened their 2018 victory.

Daly Cherry-Evans said, "For a winger to play (306) games, score that many tries and to somewhat not be spoken about a lot, I guess that maybe just sums up Toops."

Tupou said, "I've put it on pause for now, during this final series," and "So, once it's done, then I'll sort it out."
