Sydney Roosters prepare record Walker offer

Sam Walker

Sam Walker may debut for Australia against Fiji Bati on October 25, after Mitchell Moses injured his calf in the Kangaroos' World Cup win over New Zealand.

The Courier Mail reports the Roosters will offer Walker a $6 million contract, keeping him at the club and out of free agency.

The proposed deal pays $1.3 million annually, with ratchet clauses lifting his salary to $1.5 million through the end of 2031.

Walker was offered a four-year extension in August, reportedly worth $1.1 million per season; earlier reports said he and his management sought up to $1.7 million.

Talks paused while Walker focused on winning his first premiership, which the Roosters secured by beating Newcastle 19-18 in the Grand Final.

It was the club's first title since its 2018 and 2019 premierships.

Walker also made his Queensland State of Origin debut and earned Kangaroos selection after a season in which he returned from a syndesmosis injury suffered against the Dolphins in round 26.

Contract discussions are expected to restart in the coming weeks, ahead of November 1, as the Roosters seek to prevent Walker exploring other options.

NRL club executives predict the salary cap will rise by 15 to 20 per cent in 2028.
