Sam Walker's strong late-season performances helped persuade the Sydney Roosters to consider paying him more than $1 million annually from 2028, with an extension expected to run three to five years.
According to News Corp, Walker has instructed his management to reach an agreement by Monday, while the Roosters have warned the offer could be withdrawn if the deadline passes.
The club is not willing to wait until November 1 and compete with other bidders for his signature.
The Roosters have offered about $1.3 million a season, below the $1.7 million Walker was initially thought to be seeking.
Waiting until November 1 could have allowed the PNG Chiefs to make an offer near that higher figure.
Negotiations resumed recently after being paused during the finals, when Walker played a key role in the Roosters' premiership win.
Walker is currently with the Kangaroos, but is prepared to settle his future before November speculation begins.
If approved, the deal could be announced next week.
