Jon Wilkin, a pundit for Sky Sports Rugby League, asserts that Super League urgently requires a London-based team, arguing that "nobody knows what Wigan is or where St Helens is." Amid reports of the NRL potentially investing in the Super League, Wilkin emphasizes London's prominence and global recognition as key reasons for this need.

This perspective coincides with the London Broncos' recent announcement of a five-year plan aimed at revitalizing rugby league in London and the southeast.

Wilkin highlighted the stark contrast in recognition when playing in international locations like Toronto, stating, "when you go and play rugby in Toronto, you realize that nobody knows what Wigan is or where St Helens is." He underscored that when people think of England, "your eyes are drawn to London," which he describes as "one of the most beautiful cities in the world."

Additionally, while he acknowledges the high cost of living in London-"too expensive for me but other people seem to be able to afford it quite well"-he believes that a presence in the capital could significantly elevate the profile of rugby league.

Wilkin's call for a London presence in the Super League reflects a broader vision for expanding the sport's appeal beyond traditional strongholds.
