The procedure to explore the expansion of Super League from 12 to 14 teams starting in 2026 has been outlined.
According to reports from skysports.com, the existing 12 clubs within the Super League have approved the move to increase the league size to 14 teams, contingent upon certain conditions.
The current competition standings for places 1-12 will be determined using the established Club Grading System, which was also utilized for deciding the top flight for 2024.
A specialized panel will assess which additional two clubs, if any, are qualified to join Super League.
In addition to the five key criteria used in the Club Grading System-Fandom, Performance, Finances, Stadium, and Community-the panel will evaluate applications based on an extra set of Finance and Sustainability criteria.
These criteria will take into account each club's financial performance in 2025, detailed financial projections and sustainability plans for 2026, 2027, and 2028, as well as their capacity to form a competitive team for the 2026 season and beyond.
