The Salford Red Devils have not applied to be part of the Super League's planned expansion to 14 teams in 2026. They are absent from the nine clubs that submitted formal applications, as reported by skysports.com.

The Rugby Football League (RFL) released the final list of applicants on Monday. Salford, who are currently facing financial difficulties, have opted not to join other Super League teams like Huddersfield Giants and Hull FC in seeking a spot in the expanded league.

The seven additional applicants come from the Championship division, comprising Bradford Bulls, Doncaster, London Broncos, Oldham, Toulouse Olympique, Widnes Vikings, and York Knights.

The final lineup for the 2026 Super League will be announced on October 16. This will involve a grading process to determine the first 12 positions, after which a panel will assess whether the submitted applications are strong enough to warrant adding two more clubs.
