NRL great Mark Carroll has suggested that Nathan Cleary should consider joining the English Super League to not only grow the game abroad but also to be closer to his partner, Matildas star Mary Fowler.
Carroll believes that Cleary has already achieved a great deal in the NRL, winning multiple premierships, Clive Churchill medals, and State of Origin series.
He wrote in his column for The Nightly, "Cleary's won four premierships with Penrith, landed two Clive Churchill medals and played in three winning State of Origin series with NSW." Additionally, Cleary has represented Australia in five Tests and helped the Kangaroos win a World Cup in 2021.
Carroll argued that a move to the UK would be a personal and professional win for Cleary, stating that "He's represented Australia in five Tests, helping the Kangaroos to a World Cup victory in 2021."
Moreover, Carroll emphasized the potential benefits of Cleary's move to the Super League, suggesting that it could help grow the game internationally.
While some may view the suggestion as unconventional, Carroll believes that Cleary has little left to prove in the Australian game and that a new challenge overseas could be beneficial for his career.
Carroll's proposal encourages Cleary to "Take the Leap" and follow his heart, even if it means venturing outside of the familiar territory of the NRL.
The idea is not just about playing rugby league but also about personal fulfillment and being closer to loved ones.
Ultimately, Carroll's pitch for Cleary to join the Super League reflects a broader perspective on the possibilities that exist beyond the confines of the Australian rugby league scene.
