However, just moments later, the Storm suffered a devastating blow as another one of their superstars, Cameron Munster, went down with a serious ankle injury.
Munster was attempting to make a tackle when his ankle twisted awkwardly, leaving him writhing in pain on the ground.
The medical staff rushed to his aid and it was clear that Munster would not be able to continue.
The atmosphere in the stadium quickly shifted from celebration to concern as Munster was assisted off the field.
It was a bitter pill to swallow for the Storm, who had just welcomed back Papenhuyzen after his long injury layoff.
The team will now have to regroup and find a way to cope without two of their key players as they head into the finals.
Despite the setback, Papenhuyzen's return was a glimmer of hope for the Storm, who will need all hands on deck as they aim for another premiership title.
