The Melbourne Storm are facing the possibility of losing another key player from their strong backline, with center Nick Meaney emerging as a potential departure.
In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Meaney revealed that he may not be staying in Melbourne, contrary to earlier expectations.
He acknowledged that he has had talks with the Perth Bears regarding a potential transfer in 2027, although he has not ruled out the possibility of re-signing with the Storm, who are navigating one of their most challenging off-seasons in recent history.
Meaney's contract ends after the 2026 season, and he has played for the Storm for the last four years, following spells with the Canterbury Bulldogs and Newcastle Knights.
Additionally, a change in position within Craig Bellamy's squad remains an option if he chooses to stay in Melbourne.
"We've chatted with [the Bears] and obviously had a lot of conversations with Melbourne," Meaney said. "I'm still going through the process… what's best for my future and my family as well, because I've got to take care of two young kids and put them on the right path."
