Storm Push for Early Bellamy Decision in 2027
The Melbourne Storm typically maintain a relaxed approach during extension discussions with head coach Craig Bellamy, allowing him ample time to decide on his future with the club. However, this situation is different, as the Storm plans to urge Bellamy for an early decision on his coaching career amid one of the club's most significant transitional phases in recent years.
Storm CEO Justin Rodski has announced that he will meet with Bellamy next week after the seasoned coach returns from a family holiday in Coolangatta. The focus of their meeting will be on whether Bellamy will extend his contract through 2027, marking his 25th year in charge.
"We're talking to Craig about that at the moment," Rodski stated during an interview with Storm media. "He's obviously been on holiday in Coolangatta, enjoying some time off as he should. When he returns in the next week or so, we'll sit down with him and hopefully look at what extending him for at least another year looks like."
Since 2022, Bellamy has worked under a year-by-year contract, with his current agreement set to expire at the end of 2026. Traditionally, the Storm has allowed him until mid-season to finalize his decision. However, Rodski emphasizes that the club is seeking a definitive answer sooner this time around.
"That would take him into his 25th year as Melbourne Storm coach in 2027 if we could secure that," Rodski added.
