In a hard-fought battle at AAMI Park, the Sydney Roosters concluded their 2023 season with a loss to the Melbourne Storm by a score of 18-13.
The match was a true arm-wrestle, lasting a full 80 minutes.
Despite falling behind early, the Roosters managed to take the lead in the 71st minute thanks to a field goal by Sam Walker.
However, the Storm proved to be too strong on their home turf, as Will Warbrick scored the match-winning try in the dying moments of the game, securing Melbourne's spot in the preliminary finals.
The Roosters did receive some respite when a knock-on call against Jaxson Paulo was successfully challenged, with replays showing that the ball had actually touched the winger's face and not his hand.
However, the Storm took advantage of the situation and extended their lead to six points with a penalty goal.
Despite their efforts, the Roosters struggled to gain field position, with the Storm continuously denying them any opportunities.
They briefly capitalized on an error from Josh King, pushing past the 50-meter line.
However, their momentum was short-lived, as a clear knock-on by Harry Grant went unnoticed by the officials, forcing the Roosters to defend once again.
