"We haven't been consistently at the best": Storm not content with top spot ahead of finals push
The Melbourne Storm's top dog, Frank Ponissi, has come out swinging, stating that the team has yet to hit their stride this season.
After a shocking loss to the St George Illawarra Dragons followed by a bounce-back win against the South Sydney Rabbitohs, the Storm are still in the running for the minor premiership.
But, with a showdown against the Penrith Panthers - their closest competitors in the race - looming on the horizon, there's no time to rest on their laurels.
Ponissi, chatting on SEN 1170 NRL Crunch Time, acknowledged their current ladder position with a nod and a wink, but made it clear that there's still room for improvement as they gear up for the finals.
On a scale of 1 to 10, he rated the team a solid '7.5'.
"Obviously the position on the ladder, we're really pleased with," Ponissi remarked on SEN 1170 NRL Crunch Time.
"The way we've played and won certain games, we've hung into every single game, even the games we've lost, I think from that point of view we'd rate highly."
