Melbourne Storm's head coach, Craig Bellamy, has addressed the arrival of Bronson Xerri from the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.
Reports suggest that a three-year deal for Xerri is almost finalized, according to the Daily Telegraph, but the Storm is eager to bring him on board as soon as possible.
After falling out of favor at Belmore, the 25-year-old has been given permission by the Bulldogs to negotiate his immediate future.
Xerri was omitted from the team after their season opener in Las Vegas and has experienced fluctuating involvement since then.
The Storm is pushing for his transition before the June 30 deadline, prompting Bellamy to provide an update on the matter.
In the aftermath of his team's recent loss to Manly, the veteran coach was inquired about the progress of the negotiations for Xerri, as well as discussions surrounding Oryn Keeley, a player previously linked with the Storm.
"We'd love to get a couple of new players in to bolster the depth," he remarked during the post-match press conference.
"Yeah (it's exciting), if we can get him. I'm not quite sure, anything can happen, I've been concentrating on this week," Bellamy added.
"But it'll be good if we can get a player or two for the rest of the year, it's been a horror injury toll."
