The Melbourne Storm have parted ways with rising star Grant Anderson, who is set to join the Brisbane Broncos next season on a two-year deal.
This move, confirmed on Wednesday, has left many NRL fans divided, particularly as it casts doubt on the future of current Broncos player Selwyn Cobbo.
Reports indicate that the Broncos have offered Cobbo, who is currently earning around $650,000 annually, a reduced deal of approximately $300,000, fueling speculation about his potential exit from the club.
The Broncos, having recently extended contracts for players like Josiah Karapani and Adam Reynolds, now boast an impressive backline for 2026, including Anderson, leaving Cobbo increasingly surplus to requirements.
Anderson has performed exceptionally well this season for Melbourne, stepping up during the absence of winger Will Warbrick due to concussion protocols.
In his last 12 games, Anderson has scored 10 tries and averaged 142 running meters.
Despite the Storm's depth in talented outside backs, which includes players like Xavier Coates and Jack Howarth, fans are expressing regret over Anderson's departure, fearing it may have been a rash decision.
Meanwhile, Parramatta Eels have agreed to sign former State of Origin forward Jack de Belin for the 2026 season, a move that has also drawn criticism.
Many Eels fans are questioning the rationale behind acquiring a 34-year-old player whose prime performance years appear to be behind him.
De Belin, who played three Origin games for the Blues in 2018, has not been a consistent impact player in recent seasons.
Both moves have sparked significant discussion among fans, highlighting differing opinions on player performances and the future direction of their respective clubs.
