Melbourne Storm has welcomed the Labor Party's election commitment of $10.68 million to build a mini rectangular stadium at Casey Fields.
The announcement was made by Storm CEO, Justin Rodski, along with Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, Catherine King, and other key stakeholders.
The proposed Casey Mini Stadium aims to address the increasing need for elite rectangular venues in Victoria to accommodate the growth of rugby league and football.
CEO Justin Rodski expressed his excitement about the project, stating, "This commitment is a significant milestone in the development of sport in the Casey region and will provide much-needed infrastructure for the growing community." The stadium is expected to benefit not only Melbourne Storm, but also Melbourne City FC and local rugby league club, Casey Warriors.
The presence of Storm second rower, Joe Chan, U17 female players, Eboni Heurea and Justice Mercedes Huriwai-Daymond, at the announcement highlighted the importance of the stadium for young athletes in the region.
Rodski emphasized the positive impact the stadium will have on the local community, stating, "The economic, social and health impacts of the proposed facility are immense, and it will provide a significant boost for local sports clubs, schools and community groups."
Federal Member for Holt, Cassandra Fernando, praised the commitment as a step towards supporting grassroots sports in the area, stating, "This investment will not only benefit elite athletes, but also provide opportunities for local sports clubs and the wider community to participate in high-quality sporting events."
