State of Origin Teams Announced with Surprises

The teams for Game 1 of the 2026 State of Origin have been officially announced by the New South Wales Blues and Queensland Maroons, and fans can expect some unexpected selections.

In the lineup for the Blues, James Tedesco has taken over the fullback position from Dylan Edwards. Additionally, Tolutau Koula is set to make his debut on the wing. The squad also features several fresh faces, including Addin Fonua-Blake, Victor Radley, Blayke Brailey, Ethan Strange, and Casey McLean.

Meanwhile, the Maroons have opted for a new fullback as well, with Kalyn Ponga stepping in for Reece Walsh. Regarding their halfback position, the injured Tom Dearden will be replaced by rookie Sam Walker. The Queensland team is also welcoming debuts from Jojo Fifita, Max Plath, and Briton Nikora, and there's a possibility that Ezra Mam might contribute off the bench.
