Kotoni Staggs has made it clear that he will only play for Australia in next year's Rugby League World Cup if Kevin Walters remains as the Kangaroos' coach.
The Dally M centre of the year and Brisbane's standout player rounded off a stellar season with a strong performance during Australia's 3-0 sweep against England.
While Staggs is also eligible to represent Tonga, he will need to make a decision regarding his national allegiance before the tournament, which will take place in Australia, Papua New Guinea, and New Zealand next year.
However, the decision seems straightforward for Staggs, as long as his former Brisbane coach remains in position.
"Playing back with Kev was good," Staggs shared after another triumph, this time at the Australian PGA pro-am alongside teammates Adam Reynolds, Jesse Arthurs, and Cameron Smith.
"We've got a good relationship. I love being alongside him and being coached by him, he's taught me a lot.
"If Kev stays in that role, I don't see myself anywhere else.
"If he's there, I'll be there as well with him, but time will tell."
