St Helens have officially parted ways with head coach Paul Wellens after three years at the club.
This decision follows the team's defeat in the Super League play-off semi-final against Hull KR, concluding their season as Wellens' contract was also up.
Wellens was informed by the club, which he has supported since childhood, that they would not be retaining him as head coach and would pursue a different direction.
Reports indicate that St Helens management has been in talks with other coaches, both in the UK and Australia. They concluded that Wellens would not have his contract renewed if he couldn't lead the team to a Grand Final.
In a statement, Saints chairman Eamonn McManus remarked: "Paul's contribution to the history of the club has been without equal."
He added, "As a player, he won every honour available in the sport and was at the epicentre of the incredible success story during his 17-year playing career at the Saints."
