'Tough year on the injury front for Souths': Cody Walker sidelined, Latrell Mitchell still on the mend

In a blow to South Sydney's finals aspirations, star halfback Cody Walker has been ruled out of the upcoming clash against the Sharks due to a pesky calf injury.

The experienced playmaker sustained the setback in a recent match against Canberra and will be replaced by Dion Teaupa, who has seen limited game time this season.

"He's not quite right, so he won't be taking the field," interim coach Ben Hornby lamented.

Walker, a standout in try assists for the team this season, attempted to push through the pain in training but was ultimately deemed unfit to play.

With just a single session under his belt, it was decided that risking his health was not worth it.

"It's been a tough year on the injury front for us," Hornby added in a somber tone.

"We'll give it another week and see how he progresses from there.

Dion has been putting in the hard yards at training, so we're backing him to step up and seize the opportunity."

As Souths struggle to keep their finals dream alive, all eyes are now on the recovery of Latrell Mitchell, who remains sidelined as he continues his rehabilitation.

With time ticking away in the season, the Rabbitohs face an uphill battle to secure their spot in the playoffs.
