In a sport where the heartlands are often thousands of miles away, London Broncos have always found themselves in a unique rugby league situation.

This season, however, is unlike anything they've experienced before.

No matter what they do in Super League this year, they will have to make a swift exit later on.

With only the top 12 clubs securing a spot at the top table in 2025, London's low ranking last season means they won't improve enough to stay.

Not even a grand final win could save them from this fate.

But despite their impending departure, London Broncos are determined to prove their critics wrong.

Many believe that this squad, made up of southern-based players, some of whom are part-time, won't win a single game this year.

Some even compare them to Halifax's infamous record of zero points in 2003.

While that record still lingers in the realm of possibility, London did manage to earn some admirers with their spirited performance against Hull FC.

With just seconds remaining, it seemed as though the Broncos were on their way to their first victory in 2024.

Robbie Storey's interception try had given them a two-point lead with only four minutes left on the clock.

However, their hopes were dashed as Morgan Smith scored a late try for Hull, securing their first win of the year.

Although the Broncos may not be winning games, they are certainly winning over fans with their effort and determination on the field.

With over half of their team hailing from their own academy and having grown up in the south of England, coach Mike Eccles is confident that London is building for a brighter future.

Their recent match against Catalans drew in a crowd of over 5,000, the highest in the capital for a decade.

Despite their impending departure, the Broncos are determined to make their mark and leave a legacy behind.
