In a clash that sent shockwaves through the Rugby League world, it has been revealed that Queensland Maroons coach Billy Slater and former Brisbane Broncos coach Kevin Walters found themselves at odds over young gun Reece Walsh.
The duo, known for their strong opinions and fiery personalities, reportedly couldn't see eye-to-eye on how best to utilise the rising star.
According to veteran journalist Robert Craddock, there were "secret" talks between Slater and Walters, with both coaches vying for control over Walsh's development.
Slater, a legendary fullback in his own right, has been credited with helping Walsh elevate his game to new heights during his time with the Maroons.
However, his vision for Walsh clashed with that of Walters during his tenure with the Broncos.
Craddock's report in the Courier Mail revealed that Walsh was caught in the middle of a "secret tug of war" between Slater and Walters, with both coaches wanting to mold the young player in their own image.
They disagreed on where Walsh should position himself in the defensive line and how he should approach his runs from dummy-half.
This clash of coaching styles has raised concerns about Walsh being exposed in defence, which has been a recurring issue in recent seasons.
As Walsh continues to hone his skills under the guidance of Broncos coach Michael Maguire, it remains to be seen how much influence Slater will have over the young star's development.
With tensions running high between two of Rugby League's biggest personalities, all eyes will be on Walsh as he navigates through this challenging period in his career.
