The Sharks put up a gallant fight against the Bulldogs in a thrilling Flegg match, with Michael Gabrael showcasing his skills with a scorching try and a brilliant assist.

Despite their early lead of 14-0, Cronulla couldn't hold off the Bulldogs as they succumbed to a 24-22 defeat on Friday.

In what could have been a classic underdog victory, the Sharks, sitting at eighth place, showed they were not to be underestimated as they took on the second-placed Canterbury team at PointsBet Stadium.

However, a string of four consecutive tries from the Bulldogs turned the tide against Cronulla.

Nevertheless, the Sharks showed grit and determination with a late comeback, scoring two quick tries to narrow the gap.

In the end, it was the kicking game that proved pivotal, with goal-kicking making the difference in the closely fought contest.

The Sharks got off to a flying start with winger Kristian Dixon showcasing his athleticism by scoring a spectacular try off a beautifully executed pass from halfback Riley Pollard.

And with the Bulldogs reduced to 12 men after a sin-binning, Cronulla capitalized on the opportunity as Gabrael burst through the defense for their second try of the night.

Despite the Bulldogs clawing their way back into the game, Gabrael once again showed his blistering pace by setting up a try for Te Wehi Waitere in the corner, courtesy of a slick pass from five-eighth Taj Ford.

Although Pollard couldn't convert, the Sharks showed they were not going down without a fight.

Overall, it was a heart-pounding match that kept fans on the edge of their seats, with the Sharks leaving it all out on the field in a valiant effort against the Bulldogs.
