NRLW Match Preview: Round 1 v Eels

In the highly anticipated NRLW season opener, the Cronulla Sharks will face off against the Parramatta Eels at Sharks Stadium on Thursday night.

Both teams aim to make a strong start in their campaigns, following a physical encounter in Round 2 last year where Cronulla narrowly won 18-16.

The Sharks, coming off a heartbreaking loss to the Roosters in last year's Grand Final, are eager to assert their dominance this season.

Despite trailing 24-0 in the final, they made a fierce comeback, losing 32-28.

In preparation for the upcoming season, the Sharks fought to a 12-all draw against the Roosters in a recent trial match, displaying their determination.

Notably, new signings Chantay Kiria-Ratu and Jacinta Carter will debut as halfback and prop, respectively, while second-rower Jaydika Tafua is expected to make her NRLW debut off the bench after impressing in the trial.

For the Eels, the focus this year is on redemption after narrowly missing the 2024 finals, finishing fifth.

Their lead-up to the premiership featured a close 24-18 loss to the Bulldogs, but they are determined to improve and make a deeper run in the competition this season.
