Sharks secure rising stars for 2026 wave

The Cronulla Sharks have officially retained two promising young players, Chris Vea'ila and Niwhai Puru, as they build their roster for the 2026 NRL season.

Both players, who have yet to make their first-grade debuts, have signed one-year contract extensions with the team.

Sharks General Manager of Football, Darren Mooney, expressed confidence in their potential, stating, "Niwhai and Chris are developing well and have exciting futures ahead of them.

They've taken their performances to new levels for Newtown and have been knocking on the door of the NRL.

We expect them to keep progressing."

Niwhai Puru has recently distinguished himself by being named Player of the Match in the 2024 NSW Cup Grand Final, showcasing an exceptional performance against the North Sydney Bears.

Additionally, he has also represented the Indigenous All Stars team, underscoring his rising profile in the rugby league.
