The mentors guiding Sharks young gun on path to NRL debut
Emerging center Michael Gabrael has expressed gratitude towards his Sharks teammates, Jesse Ramien and KL Iro, who have taken on mentorship roles as he aims to use the Witzer Pre-Season Challenge as a launchpad for his NRL debut.
At just 21 years old, Gabrael has undergone a two-year apprenticeship after joining the Sharks in 2024, and he is eager to advance this season.
A representative for NSW Under 19, Gabrael showcased remarkable try-scoring talent in reserve grade last year, netting 19 tries across 20 matches.
The budding star got a taste of the Pre-Season Challenge in 2025 and is gearing up to play for Cronulla in their opening trial against Parramatta at Henson Park on February 15.
Throughout the summer, Gabrael has absorbed insights from his seasoned teammates, fueling his determination to demonstrate that he is ready for a shot at the NRL this season.
Having elevated his game to the NSW Cup last year, he is well-positioned for an NRL debut in the upcoming season.
With Mawene Hiroti departing for the Titans in 2027, the opportunity arises for Gabrael to secure a long-term role within the Sharks lineup.
