Sharks young gun Liam Ison has been dealt a devastating blow, with scans confirming he has ruptured his ACL while playing for the Newtown Jets over the weekend.
It's a tough break for the 20-year-old fullback, who was hoping to make a splash in the Sharks lineup this season after making his NRL debut last year.
Unfortunately, he will now be sidelined for the rest of the 2025 season as he undergoes knee reconstruction surgery.
The news is a real kick in the guts for Ison, who had signed a new two-year contract with the Sharks just last December.
He was expected to be a key player in the team's plans for the future, but now he faces a long road to recovery.
In a statement, Sharks head coach lamented the loss of Ison, calling him a "rising star" and expressing confidence in his ability to bounce back stronger.
"Liam is a tough competitor and we have no doubt he will approach his rehabilitation with the same determination he shows on the field," he said.
While it's a tough break for Ison, the Sharks will be hoping to rally around their teammate and come together to fill the void left by his absence.
As they say in rugby league, it's all about the next man up and stepping up to the plate when your number is called.
As for Ison, he will have the full support of the Sharks community as he begins his road to recovery.
Here's hoping he can make a comeback stronger than ever and fulfill his potential in the years to come.
