Shark's future murky for 2025 season kickoff

Cronulla Sharks forward Toby Rudolf is facing a potential setback for the 2025 season opener in Las Vegas after copping a charge from the Match Review Committee (MRC).

Rudolf, known for his hard-hitting style on the field, was one of two Sharks players charged after their recent clash against the Penrith Panthers, which unfortunately saw them bow out of the 2024 NRL Grand Final race.

The rugged forward was hit with a Grade 2 Dangerous Contact charge for an early trip in the game, putting him at risk of a one-match ban if he opts for an early guilty plea.

However, if he decides to contest the charge and is found guilty at the judiciary, he could be sidelined for two games.

His teammate Siosifa Talakai has also found himself in hot water with a Grade 1 Dangerous Contact charge for a late hit on Panthers' playmaker Jarome Luai.

Fortunately for Talakai, he will only receive a fine and remain available to represent Tonga at the upcoming 2024 Pacific Championships.

The Sharks will be hoping to have Rudolf, a key piece of their forward pack, back in action for their season opener as they look to start the new season on a high note.

Time will tell if the tough forward can shake off this setback and bounce back stronger for the upcoming season.
