'Absolutely embarrassing': Footy world slams Sharks-Cowboys crowd

In a clash of the footy titans on Friday night in Sydney, the AFL has emerged victorious in the heart of rugby league territory.

When it comes to filling stadiums, Friday night's finals showdown revealed the harsh truth in the world of footy codes.

With the Swans battling Port Adelaide at the 48,000-seat SCG and the Sharks taking on the North Queensland Cowboys at the 45,500-seat Allianz Stadium in the same Moore Park area, the AFL came out on top.

The SCG was a sea of red as 44,053 passionate fans witnessed the Swans secure their spot in the AFL Grand Final next Saturday, where they will face off against either Geelong or Brisbane.

Meanwhile, the Sharks ended their eight-game finals losing streak with a 26-18 victory in front of a disappointing crowd of just 19,124, filling only around 42 per cent of the stadium.

In the world of NRL, it was always going to be a challenge to pack out Allianz Stadium for this crucial match.
