Sharks' Backs Take a Hit-Injury Wave Hits Hard

Pilot Medical Update: KL Iro

LeagueNews.co | Jason Patrick

The Sharks are facing challenges in their outside back depth due to injuries to KL Iro and Mawene Hiroti.

Iro recently had surgery to repair a ruptured pectoral muscle sustained during a loss to the Warriors.

Although the surgery was successful, he is expected to be sidelined for about three months, with hopes he will return before the end of the 2025 home and away season.

Meanwhile, Hiroti suffered a calf strain during the Sharks' victory over the Dragons, which is expected to keep him out for four to six weeks.

Despite the absence of these two senior players, the Sharks remain confident in their depth and will announce a backline replacement prior to their upcoming match against the Broncos.

In more positive news, Toby Rudolf successfully returned from a seven-week layoff due to an ankle syndesmosis injury during the game against the Dragons.

Additionally, Sione Katoa had a standout performance, scoring two tries, one of which was a spectacular match-sealing effort late in the game.
