Brailey out to emulate Benji's Tigers as Sharks chase historic upset

The Cronulla Sharks aim to make history by becoming the first team in 20 years to reach a grand final without an Origin player, as they seek an upset victory against the Storm this Friday night.

Since the start of State of Origin, the only team to make it to the decider without featuring a player in that year's series is the 2005 Wests Tigers. This information comes from rugby league historian David Middleton.

Now, the Sharks are a single win away from joining Benji Marshall's team in that unique category while aiming for an upset against Melbourne at AAMI Park in the preliminary final.

In contrast, five players from the Storm participated in this year's Origin series, and Jack Howarth was included in the Maroons' extended squad.

Despite lacking the star power found in the Storm roster, Cronulla captain Blayke Brailey emphasized that his team is filled with dedicated players who consistently prioritize teamwork.
