Former Canterbury Bulldogs halfback Toby Sexton is set to return to the NRL for the 2027 season, having reportedly secured a lifeline. Although he initially signed a two-year contract with the Catalans Dragons in the Super League, Code Sports indicates that he has opted to utilize his NRL get-out clause to join the Perth Bears.

This development follows the Bears' successful recruitment of English international centre Harry Newman from the Leeds Rhinos and Papua New Guinea international dummy-half Judah Rimbu. As one of the earliest players linked to the NRL's newest expansion team, Sexton's recruitment is significant, particularly as the Bears had previously missed out on several high-profile signings, including Beau Fermor, Harry Grant, and Jayden Campbell.

"Toby is a quality first grader. He is certainly a guy we will be looking at," stated Dane Campbell, the recruitment boss for the Perth Bears. "Toby is a good person and good player and harbours an ambition to probably come back to the NRL at some point."

Campbell added, "There's plenty of talent out there and it's just a process. You can't just click your fingers and expect blokes to sign just because you send them a contract."
