Sexton embracing unexpected Galvin partnership
Canterbury playmaker Toby Sexton has expressed his readiness to step into the No.7 jersey if needed, as the injury-plagued Bulldogs gear up for Sunday's semi-final against the Panthers.
Last week, Sexton received an unexpected call to join the bench for the qualifying final against the Storm. He was brought into the game early on, specifically in the 20th minute, following a foot injury sustained by Stephen Crichton.
With their captain likely to miss the high-stakes match at Accor Stadium, coach Cameron Ciraldo is considering various options to fill the void in the centers.
One possibility could see outside back Jacob Kiraz moving infield, but it is more probable that Matt Burton will shift from five-eighth to center, allowing Sexton to step into the starting lineup and partner with Lachlan Galvin in the halves.
This development would signify a remarkable resurgence for Sexton, who was informed just a couple of months ago that he might not have a long-term role at the Bulldogs. Nevertheless, Sexton always aspired to make a significant contribution in his final season before transitioning to Catalans.
Instead of resenting his replacement, Sexton chose to mentor the young Galvin, helping him adjust to his new environment at the club.
