Toby Sexton, the newly signed recruit for the Perth Bears, has expressed his excitement about leading the NRL's latest franchise. He acknowledges that the chance to be an inaugural player under the legendary Mal Meninga made his decision to join the team "an easy one."

Sexton is set to play in the Super League with the Catalans during the 2026 season before joining the Bears for their debut in 2027.

Although he is uncertain about his future halves partner or the overall squad composition, Sexton feels that the opportunity to be the club's first significant signing is irresistible.

"To be an inaugural player at the Perth Bears and to play under Mal is pretty special," Sexton shared with the Sydney Morning Herald.

"I'm so fortunate to sign with Perth and become an inaugural player for them."

Having played under Meninga at the Gold Coast Titans, Sexton believes their previous relationship will deepen once they reunite in Western Australia:

"With Mal there, I'm sure there's plenty of players who want to play under him," he noted.
